Design

Asus claims to have collaborated with BMW on the ROG Strix G15, which seems intriguing at first. Unfortunately, car-inspired designs have been a part of gaming gear for a long time, and they’re not going away any time soon.

In the end, a plastic gaming laptop with ridges, lines, and textures is created as a result of the partnership. Using your fingers, you can feel the faux brushed metal. Even yet, I prefer this design to the Acer Predator Helios 300’s more gaudy style.

The ROG Strix G15 is composed completely of plastic, but its structural robustness is reminiscent of a tank. The only weak point is the cover. As long as the lid isn’t at least half-way open, it’ll close on its own without too much effort. The RGB wraparound light bar adds a dash of color to your workspace.

Asus claims that the “professional impression” it conveys is enhanced by the fact that my unit is completely black. It’s a gaming laptop, and that’s all anyone will think it is. Laptops like the MSI GS66 Stealth or Razer Blade are better suited for business meetings (if you still have those, that is).

The ROG Strix G15, on the other hand, does have lighting. A lot of illumination. To begin with, the keyboard has backlighting for each key on the keyboard. The ROG Strix G15 has a “wraparound light bar” that adds a burst of color to your workspace. There is a diffused glow beneath the LEDs, which are not visible. It’s a great touch that distinguishes the Strix G15 from the sea of similarly colored gaming laptops.

In terms of weight or thinness, the ROG Strix G15 is a heavyweight. It has a weight of 5.7 pounds and a thickness of less than an inch. For portability, even Dell’s own gaming laptop, the G3, can’t compete with the Strix G15. It also has a huge footprint, which is a result of the ports being located on the back of the Strix G15. The chin bezel of the laptop is huge to compensate. It appears that there’s a large gap in between the screen and the remainder of the chassis. In other words, it’s higher than some 17-inch computers when open.

However, the ROG Strix G15 has a rather conventional keyboard layout, with a few exceptions. The vividly colored WASD keys and the additional function keys on the side are really appealing to me. The volume control has also been removed from the function row by Asus. As a result, their button layout is unwieldy and lacking in precision.

As far as touchpads for gaming laptops go, this one’s a good bet. There are two physical buttons on the touchpad (left and right) that feel out of place and reduce the amount of usable space. Since the touchpad lacks a number pad, you can use the touchpad as a digital number pad. Accounting won’t like it, but it does the job.

Performance and hardware

An AMD Ryzen 7 5800H 8C/16T processor, 32 GB of DDR4 3200 MHz memory in dual channels, 1 TB of SSD storage, and dual graphics—the Nvidia RTX 3070 discrete graphics card with 8GB of video RAM and the AMD Vega GPU integrated into the AMD processor—make up our test model, code-named G713QR, from ASUS ROG Strix G17.

It was provided by AMD and is a retail model identical to the ones you can get in stores, running on the software available late February 2021 (BIOS 309, Armoury Crate 3.3.7.0, GeForce 461.40 drivers) with the hotfixes and upgrades published in the several weeks after debut.. As a result, I don’t think future software updates will bring about any significant changes.

The 2021 ASUS ROG Strix G17 is outfitted with the newest AMD and Nvidia components. AMD’s Cezanne Ryzen 5000 platform’s main mobile CPU, the Ryzen 7 5800H, features 8C/16T, a specified TDP of 45W, and somewhat lower clock speeds than the Ryzen 9 5900HX at the top of the line. Even if you’re ready to fork over the extra cash for the 5900HX, you won’t be getting much benefit from it, as our tests show.

The Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop chipset powers our system at 115W, which is already overclocked out of the box on the Turbo profile and has the capacity to jump up to 130W in supported titles with Dynamic Boost 2.0. The GPU receives additional CPU power as needed thanks to this technology (for instance, in games). The tested BIOS version appears to offer resizable BR, as far as I can tell.

In addition to this, the laptop has two slots for M.2 SSDs and two memory DIMMs that can be accessed. A fast SK Hynix HFM001TD3JX013N SSD and 32GB of dual-channel RAM were included in our system’s delivery. However, the inclusion of an SSD may differ from region to country.

A few Phillips screws hold the back panel in place as you pop it up to access the inside components. The LED strip on the front is powered by two ribbons that are joined to the mainboard when the bottom panel is lifted. If you exert too much force, you run the risk of causing a break.

Asus reduced the number of M.2 slots from three to two by increasing the battery’s output to 90 watts. Because the same internals need to fit into the smaller Strix G15 as well, there’s still quite an amount of empty space, particularly under the keyboard and around those small speakers.

Performance in a game

The graphics of the ROG Strix G15 may just be an Nvidia GTX 1650 Ti, but don’t dismiss it just because of that. Even with the settings cranked all the way up, it runs modern 3D games like a champ. In Fortnite, Battlefield V, and Civilization VI, it’s possible to get up to 64 frames per second. 144 Hz refresh rate isn’t utilized to its full potential, but it’s still fairly high. You won’t be able to tell the difference between this and a 60Hz screen if you only play at the highest settings.

But when you down the graphics settings, it really shines. Frame rates soar, and you get a sense of how much more powerful a higher refresh rate really is. While Civilization VI runs at 108 frames per second on “Medium,” Fortnite only manages 86 on “High” (which is one down from Epic). Interestingly, it equals the Dell XPS 15’s performance in nearly every game while costing $600 less.

What’s wrong? There are some games that do better than others. A notable example of this is Battlefield V, which even on Medium settings only manages an average frame rate of 60 fps. Low settings are fine if you really need to go below 60 fps, but it’s not very enjoyable. Even better is Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, the latest installment in the series. On the ROG Strix G15, the game runs at an average frame rate of 42 fps on the “High” preset. It drops to 23 fps at Ultra High. Because of this, Asus has categorized this laptop as “e-sports.” The ROG Strix G15 isn’t a good choice if you’re looking to play anything more demanding, or even if you just want to see more graphical detail in your games.

That’s where the Dell G5 SE shines, thanks to its AMD processor. The Dell G5 SE’s AMD Radeon RX 5600M surpasses the Nvidia GTX 1650 Ti by as much as 48% in some circumstances. Dell, on the other hand, sells the G5 SE without a 144Hz refresh rate in lower-end models. The ROG Strix G15’s high refresh rate is better suited to a specific type of gamer.

Asus, of course, has more powerful models of this laptop available. The $1,500 model, for example, has an RTX 2070, a 240Hz refresh rate, 16GB of RAM, and 1TB of solid-state storage, making it an enticing alternative. For an additional $500, Razer sells a Blade with a nearly same configuration.

Over smaller gaming laptops, the ROG Strix G15 offers an advantage in cooling performance. The system’s surface temperatures remain amazingly low even when it is actively gaming. If you’re a long-time gamer, the cooler temperatures on the palm rests are worth sacrificing a little fan noise (and chassis thickness).

Performance in the creation of content

The Dell G5 SE continues to be an issue in the comparison when it comes to performance outside of gaming. The ROG Strix G15 has a six-core CPU, whilst this one has an eight-core option. This translates to dramatically improved performance in applications with a large number of threads. The ROG Strix G15 may not be a deal-breaker for gamers because of its gaming focus.

For this evaluation, I was provided with an Intel Core i7-10750H processor, 8GB of memory, and a 512GB solid-state drive (SSD). I was a little concerned about how it performed in Cinebench R20. Even a 15-watt laptop like the Microsoft Surface Book 3 had a better single-core performance. The Dell G5 SE performed 26 percent faster in Cinebench’s multi-core test as a result of the additional two cores.

This was reflected in the ROG Strix G15’s video encoding speed as well. Handbrake encoded a 4K movie trailer to H.265 27 percent faster on the Dell G5 SE. Even while the ROG Strix G15 wasn’t built to handle such a heavy task, it can handle some content creation on the side if you don’t care about the screen quality.

The vacant M.2 slot on the ROG Strix G15 is there for future expansion. RAM can be increased to a maximum of 32GB.

A closer look at the engine compartment

First and foremost, let’s talk about how things work. A 3.3GHz AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX processor and an Nvidia RTX 3070 GPU power this 17.3-inch laptop. It’s possible to play nearly any game at high or ultra settings with this powerful configuration. The Strix G17 is a joy to play on its 300Hz screen with Codemasters’ Dirt 5 and looks stunning in action. The laptop’s screen is as sharp as a high-end TV, but with the portability of a laptop.

The raw power behind a striking design is undeniable.

The Strix Scar 3 doesn’t change anything for Asus when it comes to offering top-notch performance in its laptops. This laptop is capable of handling whatever task you throw at it.

Let’s have a look at the details. a different form I had displayed a Core i7-9750H processor clocked at 2.6GHz. NVMe PCIe storage, 16GB RAM, and a 2.5-inch disk slot are included. The Nvidia RTX 2060 GPU on my computer is a mid-range model. A 15.6-inch Full HD screen with a 144Hz refresh rate was all I had, but you can get a 240Hz refresh rate screen for it if you’d prefer.

Even the most ardent gamers may enjoy the latest high-end games without breaking a sweat with this combination of specs. In terms of multitasking, the Strix Scar 3 has no problem handling up to 10 Chrome tabs, a few Word pages, and a background game installation. It’ll happily eat the newest games if you show them to Strix Scar 3. PUBG, Watch Dogs 2, Project Cars 2, and FIFA 19 all ran at 50-60 frames per second on the maximum level. The laptop’s network performance was excellent enough to keep things running smoothly in games like PUBG. The laptop’s thermal management is excellent, allowing it to play for long periods of time without showing any symptoms of stress.

In the midst of intense gaming sessions, you can rest assured that the laptop’s thermal management features will keep it running smoothly. In fact, the ROG Strix Scar 3 does an excellent job of dissipating internal heat, so it’s never a problem to use.

The laptop’s 15.6-inch screen is a pleasure to stare at. High contrast and vivid colors characterize the images displayed on the screen. The viewing angles are wide and there is minimal color loss due to the high brightness levels. The smoothness provided by the 144Hz refresh rate is evident in both games and everyday Windows applications.

Typing is a pleasure thanks to the keyboard. Typing large documents is made more comfortable by the keyboard’s generous key travel. While typing, the individual RGB backlighting isn’t a hindrance.

The Strix Scar 3’s only flaw is one that all gaming laptops share: a disappointingly short battery life. It’s possible to use the 4-cell Li-ion battery’s maximum runtime of up to four hours while still doing non-gaming duties with its 66WHr capacity. Gaming laptops’ battery life doesn’t matter because players always plug in their chargers while playing.

Bloatware

The ROG Strix is pre-loaded with some software. For example, the lights on your notebook and the curvature of your notebook fan may both be readily adjusted with AURA Sync and Armory Crate. However, the pre-installation of McAfee is something we despise.

McAfee isn’t the best security package out there. The software frequently disrupted our benchmarking, and its persistent calls to acquire a license led it into a region of no return.

There’s nothing else noteworthy about bloatware aside from that complaint.

Life expectancy

Assuming you’re not near a power source (or loadshedding is in effect), the Strix’s 90Wh battery should last about an hour of gaming (depending on your settings). As long as you don’t go above 20 percent of the way through a game, it’s still playable.Nine to 10 hours of battery life if you’re not gaming but viewing video.

However, if you’re using your laptop for work, you can expect between four and six hours of battery life before it needs to be recharged.

Summary of Asus ROG Strix G17 Price in Bangladesh

Compared to the Scar 17 range, the ASUS ROG Strix G17 has a lower price and a lower price per watt, but it doesn’t compromise on any of the features or performance. As a result, I think this will be on a lot of your lists in the first half of 2021 as one of the better-value A-brand performance 17-inch laptops. Before purchasing one of these, make sure you are aware of all of its idiosyncrasies.
