Design

The Flow X13 gaming laptop is one of the smallest and lightest on the market, measuring 11.8 x 8.7 x 0.6 inches and weighing 2.9 pounds. In terms of size and weight, it is smaller and lighter than the Zephyrus G14. The Flow X13 may be thrown into your backpack and almost completely forgotten about. The ROG series is well-known for its all-black appearance. The lid and bottom have textured diagonal lines, and the bottom corner has a ROG nameplate.

The palm rests have similar, albeit narrower, diagonal lines. The rough lines aren’t only for aesthetics; they also aid with grip. Despite its magnesium metal construction, the laptop has a plasticky feel to it. The keyboard has a slight give that isn’t visible in the palm rests. This isn’t a major problem, but you’ll notice it in the first few hours of using the device. Regardless, the laptop appears to be well-made.

Software

The Asus Armory Crate program is essential for the eGPU to work, but you don’t have to use it very much if you don’t want to. It allows you to switch between several power settings, monitor statistics such as CPU utilization and temperature, and sync lighting with other Asus Aura products. To be honest, it has a lot of features, and the power profiles add more complexity than they solve. However, because its background functions are not resource intensive, you can close it and forget about it. The external GPU’s blinding red light also doesn’t appear to sync with AURA, thus it can’t be dimmed or turned off.

MyAsus software appears strangely identical, despite the fact that it was clearly created with Asus’ complete laptop lineup in mind, not just gaming machines. It includes diagnostic tools, a driver updater, and power management utilities. I’m not sure why either of these tools are required, but they’re available if you want them. I don’t think they’re a big concern, and most people won’t have to deal with them all that often.

Gaming and Creator Efficiency

Keeping the machine cold is a challenge with these machines. During our testing, we used this laptop for a variety of tasks, ranging from basic Microsoft Word to photo and video editing.

The Flow X13 nearly took the lead among high-performance Ultrabooks due to its consistent performance. On this system, we edited a lot of photos and videos with Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop, and Premier Pro. His speed seemed adequate to us. The Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 in the Flow X13 runs wonderfully. We put COD Black Ops: Cold War, The Division 2, Cyberpunk 2077, and a few other games to the test. Obviously, the laptop maintained a good average temperature of 80 degrees throughout the playing session.

Performance

Our setup included an AMD Ryzen 9 5900HS CPU with 8 cores and a maximum clock speed of 4.5GHz. Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 1650 Max-Q GPU is partnered with the CPU. Other CPU options include the Ryzen 7 5800HS and Ryzen 9 5980HS, as well as an Nvidia RTX 3050 Ti GPU in some areas. The notebook comes with a 1TB NVMe PCIe Gen 3 SSD for storage and 16GB of soldered dual-channel LPDDR4X RAM.

In Cinebench R23, the Flow X13’s Ryzen 9 processor scored 1,490 points for single-core and 11,110 points for multi-core. The CPU received 7,351 points for multi-core performance and 1,321 points for single-core performance. On Geekbench, the Flow X13 outperformed the ROG Zephyrus G15, scoring higher than the much larger ROG Zephyrus G15 (Review).

Moving on to gaming, the Flow X13’s GTX 1650 Max-Q can handle some light gaming, but the real star here is the ROG XG Mobile e-GPU (RTX 3080). When connected to the e-GPU, the Flow X13 provided an average of 140fps in Call of Duty: Black Ops: Cold War on high settings. With all settings set at maximum, the laptop frequently provided up to 150 frames per second in Apex Legends. I also tried Valorant on high settings, averaging around 250 frames per second.

With AAA tiles, the XG Mobile e-GPU also functioned admirably. In Shadow of the Tomb Raider, the laptop averaged around 100 frames per second with all settings maxed out. Finally, on Ultra settings, the campaign gameplay in Battlefield V averaged around 130 frames per second. From my perspective, they were some of the best figures we’ve seen on a gaming laptop. I also ran a couple of games using the GTX 1650 Max-Q GPU. Apex Legends was able to maintain a frame rate of 50 to 60 frames per second on high settings, but Battlefield V and Shadow of the Tomb Raider were unable to do so.

It’s worth noting that you can manually raise the CPU’s TDP from 35 to 45 watts using Asus’ Armory Crate software. This, however, raises the temperature and causes the CPU to throttle.

Because this is a 2-in-1 laptop, we recommend using it in tent mode or with the bottom pointed up if you’re gaming on an external monitor. This increases airflow and accelerates performance. In addition, with the e-GPU connected, the Flow X13 operates cooler because the dedicated GTX 1650 is no longer under load. The XG Mobile comes with its own cooling system, which keeps temperatures under control even when gaming for extended periods of time.

The ROG Flow X13 is on par with some of the best gaming laptops on the market in terms of performance. While the dedicated GTX 1650 Max-Q GPU isn’t the best in the business, the CPU and e-GPU performance easily compete with, if not outperform, full-fat 15.6-inch gaming laptops. The cooling system has also been improved to prevent thermal throttling during gaming. Even when you don’t have access to an external GPU, the dedicated GTX 1650 Max-Q offers advantages and can be quite handy.

The keyboard’s layout

The keys give tactile feedback. It’s a backlit keyboard with no RGB illumination (just white), but Asus has provided a brightness level control option to keep customers happy. The keyboard is solid, albeit the limited travel means I regularly hit the Caps Lock and Shift keys more than I intended.

Nonetheless, the keyboard offers a nice typing experience and is ideal for folks like myself who spend their days typing dozens of articles, emails, and social media texts. The trackpad is absolutely unnecessary due to the huge layout on such a compact chassis. The surface of the trackpad is smooth, and Windows Precision drivers are supported for accurate tracking. The touchpad is really sensitive, but if your fingers are greasy, the smoothness may be an issue.

The battery’s service life

The Asus ROG Flow X13 has a 62Whr battery that can only last 5 hours, which is less than half of the promised 10 hours. This should come as no surprise given that we’re dealing with an 8-core CPU, a 4K display, and a dedicated graphics card in an ultraportable 13-inch form factor. I recommend upgrading to 1080p resolution if you want to get a little more battery life out of your laptop’s battery. The battery life on the ROG Flow X13 isn’t spectacular, but that was to be expected considering the features.

Embrace the Flow

i have a ROG G752 from around 5 years ago, and the older designs seemed to be on their way to the moon at some point. Aside from the RGB lights, some of the more recent Asus models are significantly more sophisticated and don’t scream “gamer” as much as they once did.

The ROG Flow X13 takes a more refined approach to design, forsaking an aggressive appearance in favor of a more graceful one. With a magnesium alloy chassis, the device is sleek and luxurious. The ribbed texture feels fantastic to the touch, with its lone signature in one corner.

The ROG Flow X13 has one Type-C USB 3.2 Gen2 PD port (two if you count the one on the XGm), one Type-A USB 3.2 Gen2 port, one HDMI 2.0, one 3.5mm Audio Jack, and the proprietary XGm port on the sides.

Some people may think the ports are insufficient, but I haven’t needed to use them any more than they have. There isn’t much to work with here, and Asus has kept things basic, but there is a reason for this, which we’ll get to later.

There is no sign of RGB, which I like. The keyboard, too, features a basic white illumination that complements the device. The keyboard is pleasant to use and, despite its crisp key presses, is quiet.

The ribbed pattern extends to the panels beside the trackpad, which are, sadly, a touch too small for my tastes. Given the amount of extra space at the top, the trackpad might have been much larger, especially for people with huge hands like mine. When it comes to laptops, the ROG Flow X13 was created with simplicity in mind, with a clean and discreet design that will appeal to both gamers and urban workers. It appeals to me.

Audio and webcam

The audio on the ROG Flow X13 is handled by two bottom-firing speakers and a smart amplifier. Despite the lack of booming bass, the speakers provide rich tones with excellent instrument separation. The 720p webcam performs wonderfully during video calls and is far above average.

Summary of Asus ROG Flow X13 Price in BD

While it has shortcomings, the Asus ROG Flow X13 serves as a good basis for future revisions. Because 13-inch gaming laptops with this much power under the hood are uncommon, this could be an excellent alternative if you require a small portable machine with some gaming prowess. The 2-in-1 capabilities of the device distinguish it, and it may be appealing if you like the idea of a gaming laptop that also acts as a tablet.

However, the poor gaming performance, short battery life, and odd port placement leave a lot to be desired. If performance is your top goal, the more powerful (and similarly priced) Razer Blade 14 or Zephyrus G14 would be a better choice.
